The journey begins with her single mother bravely immigrating to the US from a small ranch in the Dominican Republic and continues today at her residence in Bel Air, CA. “I never wanted you to just be the daughter of a maid,” her mothers revealing words.

Her mother's influence instilled in her a love and respect for her roots, helping her to obtain great success in her artistic journey, but there are many setbacks. Goals have yet to be reached and there are many tears. The life of a Latina Female Entertainer in America does not come with any guarantees or any easy paths. As she explains "I am struggling in luxury".
This is the journey, the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of a woman who comes from our Dominican Republic and has made a respectable name for herself. Kiki Melendez is a writer, actress, producer and a creator of her own destiny with her eye on helping others. With the run of her comedy show, Kiki Melendez' Hot Tamales Live, on the prestigious Showtime Television Network, airing more than 350 times, Kiki has accomplished what very few have. The critically acclaimed show has opened doors to female comics of all races, changing the face of Hollywood since 2002.
Female comediennes do not have many opportunities in the comedy circuit in America nor the world, which is why it so important for a woman to get out there and make a hit show. This is the essence of her hit show Hot Tamales Live, this is the motivation for Kiki Melendez.
Latinos are the second largest ethnic group in the USA yet it is hard to find programming and representation for this market. In 2010, Kiki decided she wanted to open doors for her people of the Dominican Republic and other Latinos around the world. She created Spanish Language Stand Up Comedy and did a tour in Florida which was a huge success.
Can it be done? Can she prove that the Latino comedy market is a rich resource waiting to be tapped? Will she make it to her ultimate goals of Hollywood success landing the TV show deal and producing the movies?
