An informative, fun and of importance event, for the awareness of the revitalization of the Los Angeles River.

This past weekend, conservation partnerships held an event celebrating the revitalization of the Los Angeles River.  Along with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Los Angeles Conservation Corps and the Friends of the Los Angeles River put this effort together as a part of the Southern California Urban Wildlife Refuge Project that reaches deep into Los Angeles, San Diego and Ventura's diverse urban core.

The goal is to bring back nature to its residents and underscore the importance of wildlife and natural habitat conservation, which are essential components to sustaining healthy communities. The area around the LA River is 57% Hispanic so this effort is of particular importance to our community.

One of the speakers of this event Wendy Butts of the Los Angeles Conservation Corps, explained to us at the press conference, that the importance of the revitalization of the LA River, is about creating an urban refuge in Southern California, because of it's ecosystem, the water that flows through it, creates it's right of protection and restoration and most of all an enjoyment by all it's residents who calls Southern California their home.

Other speakers at the event were Shelly Backlar from Friends of The Los Angeles River/River Rover; Councilman Mitch O' Farrell; Councilman Mitch O'Farrell; Councilman Gil Cedill and Councilman David Ryu. This speakers highlighted the partnership's accomplishments in benefiting the urban park project on what they all had gain as a result of the partnership, the role in ecology, river hydrology, water quality and about the Los Angeles River conservation efforts.

Also at the event, there were also educational centers for the public and families, which provided you with information in regards of the La River and it's ecosystem. For more information of how you may get involved and about this agencies, please find links below:
